WHY DO YOU WORRY?

Dearly Beloved, WHY DO YOU WORRY? “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?” (Matthew 6:25 NKJV). Many people are worrying about one thing or another: worry about what to eat; worry about what to put on as clothes; worry about shelter; worry about what to become in life; worry about failure in one’s endeavours; worry about the unknown; in fact, worry about anything and everything. Human beings are prone to worry because we do not know what will happen in the next second talk less of what will happen in the future. Worry has made many people to lose their trust in God who created them. Why do you worry? God has used other created things to teach us against worrying. In Matthew 5:19-24, Jesus Christ had been telling His disciples and others that were listening to Him (as He presented what is now known as Sermon on the Mount) what should be one’s attitude towards possessions. He thereby gave them reasons why they should not worry about their life in relations to they would eat, drink or wear. He told them that their lives are far more than food, and their bodies are far more than clothing. If God can be taking care of the birds of the air that neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, God will take care of people that are far more valuable to Him than the birds. This does not mean that one should not care about these things because they are unimportant, but rather it means that our care for them should not belittle God who can provide all these things. It is also a pointer to having total trust in God as one cares for having these things. Since God knows that human beings need all these things, He wants them to look unto Him for their provision. You do not need to worry because you were not the creator of yourself, and you cannot add a day to your life’s span. It is interesting that Jesus Christ pointed this to His audience. If no one can bring himself forth, and no one can prolong the number of his/her days on earth, then, no one should worry unduly about these things. So, worry does no good thing. Rather, it shortens life. What are earthly things that you worry about most? Why? Why do you worry? In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray for the grace not to worry about anything.
