BEWARE OF YOUR FRIENDS

Dearly Beloved, BEWARE OF YOUR FRIENDS "Beware of your friends; do not trust your brothers. For every brother is a deceiver, and every friend a slanderer. Friend deceives friend, and no-one speaks the truth. They have taught their tongues to lie; they weary themselves with sinning" (Jeremiah 9:4-5 NIV). The life of an average Jew in the time of Jeremiah was so deteriorated and corrupted that it was difficult to trust a fellow Jew. Each one was doing what seemed right in his eyes. The political leaders had abandoned the living God for worthless gods. Even the religious leaders were not trustworthy as they were misleading the people with false prophecies. Isaiah depicted this dishonest situation thus, "So justice is driven back, and righteousness stands at a distance; truth has stumbled in the streets, honesty cannot enter. Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey. The LORD looked and was displeased that there was no justice" (Isaiah 59:14-15 NIV). This situation made Jeremiah to warn the people to beware of their friends and not to trust any brother (Jeremiah 9:4-5). Prophet Micah, who lived sometime before prophet Jeremiah, also had a similar warning. Hear him, "Do not trust a neighbour; put no confidence in a friend. Even with her who lies in your embrace be careful of your words. For a son dishonours his father, a daughter rises up against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law - a man's enemies are the members of his own household" (Micah 7:5-6 NIV). Are these warnings relevant today to us as they were to the people of Judah? Have honesty, truth and righteousness not been relegated to oblivion? Can we trust our friends, neighbors, co-workers, siblings and even our spouses today? Can my friends, siblings, neighbors, co-workers, as well as my spouse trust me? These are thought-provoking questions in our present-day society that have deteriorated morally with all sorts of atrocities in the name of civilization, rationalization and liberalization. However, "there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother" (Proverbs 18:24 NIV). This Friend can be trusted at all time even when all others have disappointed you. The friend is Jesus Christ (see John 15:13-15). While you may find it difficult or cautious to trust a friend, put your total trust in Jesus Christ. You will never regret you did. In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray that you will be trustworthy to your friends.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING

Dearly Beloved, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING “Jesus answered, ‘I am telling you the truth: no one can see the Kingdom of God without being born again’” (John 3:3 GNB). The story of Nicodemus is not new. His visit to Jesus Christ privately in the night reveals many important truths to us today. One of such truths is the issue of regeneration. Nicodemus came to Jesus Christ to commend Him for His teachings and miracles and possibly to let Him know that he was one of His secret admirers. However, Jesus Christ replied him candidly that a man has to be born again to see the Kingdom of God. He must not be a praise-singer alone. Why did Jesus gave him such reply? Nicodemus was a Pharisee - one of those that have "separated" themselves unto legal self-righteousness. They were a religious and political party in Palestine in New Testament times concerned about strictly interpreting and keeping the law on all matters. He was also a member of the Jewish highest ruling council. Jesus seemed to tell him that having a new birth would give him a right standing with God, not his status. What is this "new birth" or regeneration? It is "not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but [being] born of God" (John 1:13, NIV). It is also "not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God (1 Peter 1:23, NIV). How can this happen? By faith in Jesus Christ as the only Savior and Lord of the Universe (see John 1:12; 3:16). This is the most important thing. Has this taken place in your life? No matter your religiosity, self-righteousness, appreciative works and service for God. No matter how highly placed you are in the society, "You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again'" (John 3:7 NIV). In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray that you will surrender your total life to Jesus Christ and become born again in Him (if you have not done so).

MY YEAR OF CONSOLIDATED GOODNESS OF GOD

Dearly Beloved, MY YEAR OF CONSOLIDATED GOODNESS OF GOD “Surely [God’s] goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (Psalm 23:6 NKJV). The year 2022 was indeed a great year for me. The Lord demonstrated His goodness and faithfulness over my life in remarkable ways. At the beginning of the year, I listed three specific prayer requests that I wanted God to attend to and make manifested in my life before the end of the year. The Lord did not only granted these requests before the end of the year, He also gave me additional bonuses of His goodness that made people to rejoice with me on many occasions during the year. The Lord God was indeed good and faithful to me in the year 2022. I return all the glory to Him! As I was about to enter the year 2023, the Lord ministered to me that the New Year will be the Year of Consolidated Goodness and Ever Faithfulness of God for me. I quickly keyed into it, adapted it for myself in praying that in this year 2023, God should consolidate the goodness He has done for me in the year 2022. I also make it my main prayer for people in the New Year. I say once again that this year 2023 will be the Year of Consolidated Goodness and Ever Faithfulness of God for you in Jesus’ name. Amen. The Lord is indeed good! The psalmist declared, “For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations” (Psalm 100:5 NKJV). In another place, he prophesied, “Surely [God’s] goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (Psalm 23:6 NKJV). I believe these two declarations. They have been made manifest in my life, and I am sure that they will continue to be in my life. However, these goodness and faithfulness of God are not automatic. Prophet Isaiah warned, “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land” (Isaiah 1:19 NKJV). To enjoy the goodness and faithfulness of God, one has to be obedient to God. This is reiterated in many places in the Holy Bible. As much as God loved the Israelites, He warned them severally that if they would enjoy His goodness, they have to diligently obey Him, and if they do not, they would suffer for it. As long as the Israelites obeyed God, they enjoyed Him. Anytime they disobeyed, they did not enjoy the goodness of God. That hymn writer said, “Trust and obey, for there's no other way/To be happy with Jesus, but to trust and obey.” The Lord is ready to consolidate His goodness and faithfulness over your life this year. Do you want to enjoy this consolidated goodness? Be ready to obey God wholeheartedly this year. Do not indulge yourself in sins and conscious disobedience to the words of God and the will of God for your life. 2023, My Year of Consolidated Goodness and Ever Faithfulness of God! In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Lord, give me the grace to obey You wholeheartedly so as to enjoy Your consolidated goodness this year.

Therefore in their land they shall possess double; Everlasting joy shall be theirs” (Isaiah 61:6-7 NKJV). *********** QUOTE FOR THE DAY To receive and enjoy double honour from God this year, make sure that you have received Jesus Christ into your life, and do not sell your birthright, your authority in Christ, to the devil by indulging in sins and conscious disobedience to the words of God and the will of God for your life. - Bayo Afolaranmi ************ PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Help me, O Lord, not to sell my birthright to the devil by indulging in sins this year. ______________ Have a refreshing weekend!
