BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26 NKJV). *********** QUOTE FOR THE DAY The Lord is ready to bless and keep those who are sincerely serving Him and give them peace of mind in all their endeavours. - Bayo Afolaranmi ************ PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Pray that the Lord will continue to keep you and make His face shine upon you in your daily activities.

LORD, DISMISS US WITH THY BLESSING

Dearly Beloved, LORD, DISMISS US WITH THY BLESSING “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26 NKJV). One of the hymns I cherish is “LORD, DISMISS US WITH THY BLESSING.” I can sing its Yoruba version extemporaneously. It is one of the hymns we usually use as closing hymns. John Fawcett (1740-1817) wrote the benediction that became the first two stanzas, while the third stanza was attributed to Godfrey Thring. John Fawcett was ordained a Baptist minister at Wainsgate, Yorkshire. The stanzas attributed to him might have been written in 1772 when he was invited to London to succeed J. Gill as pastor of the Carter’s Lane Baptist Church. On the day of his departure, he had preached his farewell sermon, the wagons were loaded, and he was ready to go. But he was so overcome by the thought of leaving the congregation he had come to love that he cancelled his plans and stayed in Wainsgate. In 1793, he was also invited to become president of the Baptist Academy in Bristol, but he similarly declined. In stanza 1, like a seasoned pastor or priest proclaiming the benediction after a worship service, John Fawcett prayed that the Lord should dismiss his congregation with divine blessing; that He should fill their hearts with joy and peace; and let them each possess divine love, as they triumph in redeeming grace. He added that God should refresh the congregation as they travel through the wilderness of the world. In stanza 2, Fawcett gave thanks and adoration for the Gospel’s joyful sound. He prayed that the fruits of divine salvation should abound in the hearts and lives of his congregation and that they should be found ever faithful to the truth. In the additional stanza attributed to Godfrey Thring, Thring added a word of prayer to conclude the hymn: when the divine love calls us away from this world, the Savior should let no fear of death appal us, and that as we gladly obey the divine summons, we should ever reign with God in endless day. As you meditate on this hymn of prayer, may the Lord bless you and keep you and make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you in Jesus’ name. Amen. In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray that the Lord will continue to keep you and make His face shine upon you in your daily activities.

BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY “How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? ...But I have trusted in Your mercy; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation” (Psalm 13:1, 5 NKJV). *********** QUOTE FOR THE DAY God remains God no matter what. You will soon testify to His goodness over your life. - Bayo Afolaranmi ************ PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Pray that you will continue to trust in God no matter the situation.

ANGUISHED, YET TRUSTED IN GOD

Dearly Beloved, ANGUISHED, YET TRUSTED IN GOD “How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? ...But I have trusted in Your mercy; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation” (Psalm 13:1, 5 NKJV). King David was a man after God’s heart (see Acts 13:22). He got this appellation because of his unique relationship with God. Here was a man who was anointed as king of Israel in place of Saul at a tender age but could not ascend the throne until after many years full of persecution, suffering, hardship and the like. He could not stay at home. He became a wanderer with many other distressed people (see 1 Samuel 22:1-2). At a point, he had to relocate his parents to a foreign land (1 Samuel 22:3-4). On another occasion, he had to seek refuge with the enemies of Israel to be safe (1 Samuel 27). Probably, David wrote Psalm 13 during this period of suffering. He complained that God had forgotten him and had hidden His face from helping him. He reasoned that his enemies were triumphing over him. In spite of his anguish, he expressed trust in the unfailing love of God, and still rejoiced in His salvation. What a contradiction! How could he trust Someone that had seemingly forgotten him? How could he rejoice in the salvation of Someone who seemingly allowed his enemies to triumph over him? David could trust in God in spite of his anguish because he knew the Lord that he was serving. He knew that God could deliver him from his suffering, and that that deliverance would come at God’s own time and God’s own way. No wonder, he normally enquired of the Lord before he ventured into any endeavour. Even when the lives of his loved ones were at stake, he inquired of the Lord before he pursued their captors (see 1 Samuel 30). He was never in a hurry more than God. He waited till the right time, and he eventually became the greatest king of Israel. Many people cannot trust in God because of their predicaments. Some have even denied His existence because of one disappointment or the other that they have experienced in the past. To such people, if God exists and is powerful, He would not have allowed them to pass through such ugly experiences. Well, God remains God no matter what. He will act in His own way and at His own time to deliver. He does not forget nor abandon His own. Continue to trust in Him. You will soon testify to His goodness over your life. In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray that you will continue to trust in God no matter the situation.

BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY “By this we know love, because [Jesus Christ] laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren” (1 John 3:16 NKJV). *********** QUOTE FOR THE DAY Celebrating Valentine’s Day is not a sin. Getting involved in immoral activities in the name of celebration of love on Valentine’s Day is sinning against oneself, other people, and ultimately God. Do not ruin your future during this Valentine season. Demonstration of real love should go beyond just a day in a year. Be ready to sacrificially love other people. - Bayo Afolaranmi ************ PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Pray for the grace to always demonstrate true and sacrificial love to other people.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF REAL LOVE?

Dearly Beloved, WHAT IS THE MEANING OF REAL LOVE? “By this we know love, because [Jesus Christ] laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren” (1 John 3:16 NKJV). Another Valentine season is here! Many people, especially young ones, are preparing to “celebrate” love again in their own way. Many people have ruined their destines in the name of Valentine celebrations. Many will still ruin their future during the celebration this year. Only the wise know better and celebrate the season with caution. Valentine’s Day is believed to be a day of celebration of love as St. Valentine did so many centuries ago. There have been many meanings of love. A quick search of love meaning in any dictionary will give numerous definitions. However, what is the real meaning of love? The above-quoted verse gives a unique insight into what true love means: giving oneself sacrificially to other people. This is rooted in what a man or woman can give, not what he or she can get from the object of his or her love. This is what Jesus Christ demonstrated when He emptied Himself and came down to this world to die for the sin of humankind. Every believer in Him is also expected to go out of their way to sacrificially do things for other people. This is real love. It is not the selfish love or lust that many people are demonstrating today towards other people. Apostle Paul admonished: “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others” (Philippians 2:3-4 NKJV). That is real love! Celebrating Valentine’s Day is not a sin. Getting involved in immoral activities in the name of celebration of love on Valentine’s Day is sinning against oneself, other people, and ultimately God. Do not ruin your future during this Valentine season. Demonstration of real love should go beyond just a day in a year. Be ready to sacrificially love other people. BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY “Now to [God] who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen” (Ephesians 3:20-21 NKJV). *********** QUOTE FOR THE DAY God is not only the God of impossibilities, He is above every impossibility. He will do the impossible in your life this year. - Bayo Afolaranmi ************ PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY O Lord, You specialize in turning impossibilities into possibilities. Do the seemingly impossible in my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.

GOD OF IMPOSSIBILITIES?

Dearly Beloved, GOD OF IMPOSSIBILITIES? “Now to [God] who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen” (Ephesians 3:20-21 NKJV). When BBM was in vogue, some people in one of my BBM networks were surprised to see my BBM display message in that BBM network: "I serve God of Impossibilities". They thought it must be a mistake, and they called my attention to it. To them, God cannot be God of impossibilities. I tried to explain that God is both God of possibilities and God of impossibilities. To buttress my point, I explained further that God is God of impossibilities because He specializes in turning impossibilities into possibilities. It is easy to accept God as God of possibilities because He naturally does that every day. However, it is difficult to see Him as God of impossibilities because we hardly take note of His actions of turning impossibilities into possibilities. Many people in the Bible also found it difficult to see God as God of impossibilities. Abraham and Sarah were typical examples of such people. In Genesis 17, God promised Abraham that He would “bless [Sarah] and also give [Abraham] a son by her... and she shall be a mother of nations [and] kings of peoples shall be from her” (verse16 NKJV). Abraham did not believe and even suggested a human possible way to accomplish such a promise. However, the God of impossibilities assured Abraham that He would indeed do the impossibility through Sarah. In Genesis 18, God re-echoed this promise. When Sarah overheard it, she also did not believe it. God questioned Abraham for this: “Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son” (verse 14 NKJV). At the very time God of impossibilities promised, He fulfilled His promise, and Sarah gave birth to a son at her old age. You may read Numbers 11:18-23; 2 Kings 7:1-2; Matthew Mark 10:23-27; 11:20-25; Luke 1:11-20, 26-38 to see other accounts of many other people that find it difficult to believe the God of impossibilities in the Bible. Look specifically at these Bible verses: “And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Has the Lord's arm been shortened? Now you shall see whether what I say will happen to you or not’” (Numbers 11:23 NKJV). “I know that [the LORD] can do everything…” (Job 42:2 NKJV). “Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You” (Jeremiah 32:17 NKJV). “But Jesus looked at them and said to them, ‘With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible’” (Matthew 19:26 NKJV). “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13 NKJV). There are many real-life stories apart from the biblical accounts that attest to the fact that God is not only the God of impossibilities, He is above every impossibility. In fact, to say that the God I serve is God of impossibilities is an understatement. He is the God that rules over every impossibility of life. He willingly turns impossibilities into possibilities every day. He will do the impossible in your life this year in Jesus’ name. Amen. In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Lord, you specialize in turning impossibilities into possibilities. Do the seemingly impossible in my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
