Spiritual Digest for the Day 25Dec2016

BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY “The angel answered, ‘The Holy Spirit will come down to you.... Your relative Elizabeth is also going to have a son.... Nothing is impossible for God!” (Luke 1:35-37 CEV). ****************** QUOTE FOR THE DAY One of the eternal truths in the story of the birth of Jesus Christ is the fact that nothing is impossible for God or there is nothing that God cannot do, except those things that He chooses not to do. - Bayo Afolaranmi ******************** PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY O Lord, do the impossible in my life before the end of this year!

“NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD!”

Dearly Beloved, “NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD!” “Nothing is impossible for God!” (Luke 1:37 CEV). One of the eternal truths in the story of the birth of Jesus Christ is the fact that nothing is impossible for God or there is nothing that God cannot do, except those things that He chooses not to do. The Virgin Mary naturally found it difficult to believe the announcement of Angel Gabriel that she would give birth to a son while she was still a virgin. She questioned the angel how that could be. The angel told her that that would be the work of the Holy Spirit that would come down to her and the power of God that would come over her. To substantiate this seemingly impossibility that would soon become possibility, the angel referred to Elizabeth, an old woman that people (including her husband) had thought could no longer be pregnant, that she was at that time six months pregnant. The angel then emphatically concluded his prophecy by saying, “Nothing is impossible for God!” (Luke 1: 37 CEV). Mary believed the angel and claimed the prophecy. The rest is history. It is easy to accept God as God of possibilities because He naturally does that every day. However, it is difficult to see Him as God of impossibilities because we hardly take note of His actions of turning impossibilities to possibilities. Many Bible verses attest to the fact that God can do anything. Consider these: “The Lord answered, ‘I can do anything! Watch and you’ll see my words come true’” (Numbers 11:23 CEV). “When the poor and needy are dying of thirst and cannot find water, I, the Lord God of Israel, will come to their rescue. I won’t forget them. I will make rivers flow on mountain peaks. I will send streams to fill the valleys. Dry and barren land will flow with springs and become a lake. I will fill the desert with all kinds of trees — cedars, acacias, and myrtles; olive and cypress trees; fir trees and pines. Everyone will see this and know that I, the holy Lord God of Israel, created it all” (Isaiah 41:17-20 CEV). “Lord God, you stretched out your mighty arm and made the sky and the earth. You can do anything” (Jeremiah 32:17 CEV). “There are some things that people cannot do, but God can do anything” (Matthew 19:26; Luke 18:27 CEV). “I pray that Christ Jesus and the church will forever bring praise to God. His power at work in us can do far more than we dare ask or imagine. Amen” (Ephesians 3:20-21 CEV). Apart from these and many other attestations in the Bible and the instances of the Virgin Mary and the old Elizabeth where God demonstrated that nothing is impossible for Him, there were many instances in the Bible. The story of Abraham and Sarah that gave birth to Isaac in their old age affirmed the fact that nothing is impossible for God (see Genesis 17, 18, 21). When Simon Peter saw Jesus Christ walking on the water, he could not believe it. However, he asked that he also should do likewise. He did, though he started sinking when he lost focus, but Jesus Christ rescued him (see Matthew 14:22-32). Nothing is indeed impossible for God! The implications of these are that if you want God to demonstrate His power over impossibilities in your life, then be ready to do these things: submit yourself to God; have faith in God; be ready for trials of your faith; take initiative; be ready to learn from God and events around you; and finally experience God doing the impossible! As this year is running to an end and as you are about to begin another year, what are the seemingly impossibilities in your life? Believe that nothing is impossible for God and you will experience the glory of God (cf. John 11:40). I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year (2017) in advance. In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: O Lord, do the impossible in my life before the end of this year! NB If you want to learn more about doing the impossible and experience the God of impossibilities, send an email request to me at spiritualdigest@yahoo.com for a message by me titled “DOING THE IMPOSSIBLE”. Thanks.

CHRISTMAS WITHOUT CHRIST

Dearly Beloved, CHRISTMAS WITHOUT CHRIST "She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21 NIV). I was coming home from my working place that day when I saw a place full of celebration. A brewery company is organizing a Christmas show. Beer and all sorts of alcoholic drinks were free for every one that attended the show. The place was full of young men and women and even some elderly ones that came to enjoy the show. There was no place for Christ –- the reason for Christmas –- in the show for it was organized to promote the products of the brewery company. As I was passing by the place, I was thinking within me of all the funs that normally accompany the Christmas season. Why are we doing all these funs? Are they purposely for Jesus Christ? Have we not turned the season to a season to gratify our selfish desires? It is good that a period of the year is set aside to celebrate His birth. Do we really focus on Jesus Christ who is the reason for Christmas? Do not celebrate this Christmas without Jesus Christ. He has come to save us. Paul said, "[Jesus Christ] who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good" (Titus 2:14 NIV). Have you been saved by Him? As you celebrate this Christmas, think of how you will lead others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ so that they also will not be celebrating Christmas without Christ. In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Jesus Christ, help me not to celebrate this Christmas without You.

Spiritual Digest for the Day 11Dec2016

BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY "[The LORD] said to me, ‘Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say, "The LORD does not see us; the LORD has forsaken the land."’ Again, he said, ‘You will see them doing things that are even more detestable’" (Ezekiel 8:12-13 NIV). ****************** QUOTE FOR THE DAY You may hide things from man. You cannot hide them from God. If nobody sees you, God does! - Bayo Afolaranmi ******************** PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Pray that God will deliver you from secret/hidden sins.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING SECRETLY?

Dearly Beloved, WHAT ARE YOU DOING SECRETLY? "[The LORD] said to me, ‘Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say, "The LORD does not see us; the LORD has forsaken the land."’ Again, he said, ‘You will see them doing things that are even more detestable’" (Ezekiel 8:12-13 NIV). Some people of the Judah had been deported to Babylon because of the sins of the people. In spite of this, the other people in the land of Judah continued in their sins. The Spirit of God lifted Prophet Ezekiel up in visions and took him to the city of Jerusalem to show him some of the detestable things that the people of Judah were doing secretly. Interestingly, the people were thinking that because God had forsaken them due to their sins, He did not see them as they continued in the sins. The Spirit showed Ezekiel from one place to the other as these people were doing more and more detestable things that were not hidden from God (see Ezekiel 8). Definitely, these people were punished for their sins (see Ezekiel 9). Many people like those Jews in Ezekiel’s time are doing bad things secretly today thinking that God does not see them. The psalmist vividly described such people and concluded, "Does he who implanted the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see? Does he who disciplines nations not punish? Does he who teaches man lack knowledge? The LORD knows the thoughts of man; he knows that they are futile" (Psalm 94:9-11 NIV). Some are doing bad things secretly because they have been disappointed in one way or the other. Others are doing so because they are just wicked. Most of such people prefer acting in the secret or darkness because they would not want their wickedness to be exposed (cf. John 3:19-21). What are you doing secretly thinking that nobody sees you? If nobody sees you, God does! What are you thinking secretly in your heart right now? Would you be proud of your secret acts and thoughts when they are exposed? You may hide things from man. You cannot hide them from God. Always remember the conclusion of the writer of the Ecclesiastes, "For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil" (12:14 NIV). In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray that God will deliver you from secret/hidden sins.

BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY "Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry" (2 Timothy 4:11 NKJV). ****************** QUOTE FOR THE DAY Do not give up. You can still be useful. If no one believes in you or encourages you, believe in yourself that you can make it and be useful to yourself and to others around you. - Bayo Afolaranmi ******************** PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Pray that you will not look down on anybody, but always look for the usefulness in the lives of others.

YOU CAN BE USEFUL!

Dearly Beloved, YOU CAN BE USEFUL! "Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry" (2 Timothy 4:11 NKJV). John Mark was a failure to Barnabas and Paul during their first missionary journey. He was initially their helper (Acts 13:5), but later abandoned them (Acts 13:13). His action irritated Paul so much that when Paul and Barnabas were preparing for the second missionary journey, Paul did not think it wise to take him, but Barnabas thought otherwise. The disagreement on this matter was so sharp that Paul and Barnabas parted company. Barnabas took Mark and went in one direction while Paul took another person, Silas, and went in another direction (see Acts 15:36-41). However, the seemingly unwanted Mark became useful for Paul in the latter days of his ministry to the extent that Paul had to write Timothy to bring Mark to him "for he is useful to me for ministry" (2 Timothy 4:11 NKJV). There have been cases of disappointment in part of some people that have made us to write them off. We have seen such people as a failure, and have thought that nothing good can come out of them. We may even, like Paul, refuse to give them a second chance, and be ready to quarrel with anyone that is ready to bring out the goodness in them. This ought not to be so. No one is a write-off. Even, if the person has failed several times. The person can still be useful later. Be an encourager like Barnabas, and help that person to become useful. Probably, you are the seeming failure. You have given up on yourself because you have disappointed people and yourself when you ought to deliver. Do not give up. You can still be useful. If no one believes in you or encourages you, believe in yourself that you can make it and be useful to yourself and to others around you. Encourage yourself. Like it happened to John Mark, somebody, even that person that has lost hope in you, will look for your help one day. You can be useful! In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray that you will not look down on anybody, but always look for the usefulness in the lives of others.

THE GOD OF ALL COMFORT

Dearly Beloved, THE GOD OF ALL COMFORT "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God" (2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV). In the introductory part of his second known epistle to the Corinthians, Apostle Paul gave some attributes of God that worth taking into consideration. Paul praised or blessed God who is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son, not born by human reasoning, but by divine arrangement that surpasses human comprehension. This God is the Father of compassion, the Source from where all mercies flow. His mercy endures forever, and He is ready to give out of this mercy to anyone that comes to Him. He is also the God of all comfort, the only One that can comfort people that are in misery. He made this promise to the people of Jerusalem: "I will show compassion to Jerusalem, to all who live in her ruins. Though her land is a desert, I will make it a garden, like the garden I planted in Eden. Joy and gladness will be there, and songs of praise and thanks to me" (Isaiah 51:3 TEV). Paul recalled how this God comforted him and his companions in all their troubles. However, the comfort they received from God was for a purpose: so that they could comfort others that were in trouble. God lavishes His comfort on His people so that they also will be able to be channels of His comfort to other people. Are you in distress of any kind? Look up to the God of all comfort. He will comfort you. He will show compassion on you, and you will sing songs of praise and thanks to Him. Moreover, who knows, He may be preparing you to be a channel of His comfort to other people. He is indeed the God of all comfort. In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray that you will be able to comfort others from the experience of comfort you have had from God.

BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY “Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain” (Psalm 48:1 NIV). ****************** QUOTE FOR THE DAY We have to acknowledge the greatness of God in our lives by worshiping Him for who He is and by thanking Him for what He is doing for us. - Bayo Afolaranmi ******************** PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Pray that you will be able to appreciate the greatness of God in your life.

GREAT IS MY GOD!

Dearly Beloved, GREAT IS MY GOD! “Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them. Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever” (Psalm 111:2-3 NIV). The greatness of our God, especially the greatness of His works, cannot be overemphasized. I do not know about any other person, but God has been demonstrating His greatness in my life and my family. Since the beginning of my life till now, I can experience the greatness of God. As this year is running to an end, I can look back and see how great God has been in my life. In spite of all odds, God has been great in my life. He has done so much for ME. I cannot tell it all. I will extol the LORD God with all my heart among the living. Great is MY God! I will continue to declare His greatness. I will continue to praise Him for who He is and thank Him for what He is doing in my life. The greatness of God is the thrust of Psalm 111. The psalmist declared that he would extol the Lord with all his heart among the upright people that take delight in God. He enumerated the glorious and majestic deeds of God thus: God provides food for those who fear Him; He remembers His covenant forever; He shows His people the power of His works by giving them the lands of other nations; He provided redemption for His people; and He ordained His covenant for ever. Because of these, the works of His hands are done in faithfulness and uprightness and they are steadfast forever and ever. Have you also thought about the greatness of God in your life? Have you thought about all He has done for you this year? Has He not demonstrated His greatness in your life? Can you also enumerate what He has done, and is still doing, in your life? God is indeed great and great are His deeds! Like the psalmist, we also have to acknowledge His greatness in our lives by worshiping Him for who He is and by thanking Him for what He is doing for us. Indeed, “Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain” (Psalm 48:1 NIV). In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray that you will be able to appreciate the greatness of God in your life.

BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY “In every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18 AMP). ****************** QUOTE FOR THE DAY Learn to praise God for who He is, and thank Him for what He is doing in your life. We can indeed thank God even during our most trying times. Thanks be to God! - Bayo Afolaranmi ******************** PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Lord, help me to be able to thank You even in my most trying times.

NOW THANK WE ALL OUR GOD

Dearly Beloved, NOW THANK WE ALL OUR GOD “Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name” (1 Chronicles 29:13 NIV). “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians 9:15 NIV). A typical Yoruba Baptist cannot so easily forget the hymn, “A F’Ope F’Olorun.” The hymn is one of the most popular hymns among the Yoruba Baptists especially during a naming ceremony. It is sung to thank God for the new-born baby. However, the hymn – originally written in German by Martin Rinkart (1586–1649) titled “Nun danket alle Gott“ and translated to English by Catherine Winkworth (1827–1878) before it was translated to Yoruba – is more than a naming ceremony hymn. It is a hymn that was testifying to the goodness of God especially in the time of a war. The lyrics of the hymn attest to this. Stanza One is full of appreciation to God “with heart and hands and voices.” The reason is that God has done wondrous things in blessing us with countless gifts of love from our mothers’ arms till this moment. In Stanza Two, the composer of the hymn wanted this bounteous God to be near us through all our lives by keeping us in His grace, guiding us when we are perplexed, and saving us from all evils in this world. Meanwhile, Stanza Three continues to eulogize God. It gives a profound concept about God as the one eternal God who manifests Himself as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He is the one that the earth and the heavens will continue to adore both now and evermore. Amen.   In spite of the circumstance that led to the composition of this hymn, the hymn is full of praises of and thanksgiving to God. What is your circumstance presently? Learn to praise God for who He is, and thank Him for what He is doing in your life. Paul advised the Thessalonians, “...give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV). We can indeed thank God even during our most trying times. Thanks be to God!  In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY "In righteousness you will be established: Tyranny will be far from you; you will have nothing to fear. Terror will be far removed; it will not come near you" (Isaiah 54:14 NIV). ****************** QUOTE FOR THE DAY Allow God to establish you in righteousness by moving closer to Him in prayer and meditation of His words. Be just and fair with people around you. Be in right standing with your God. Then, tyranny and terror of the evil ones will indeed be far from you. - Bayo Afolaranmi ******************** PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Lord, help me to move closer to You in prayer and meditation of Your words so that You will be able to establish me in Your righteousness.

BE ESTABLISHED IN RIGHTEOUSNESS (resent)

Dearly Beloved, BE ESTABLISHED IN RIGHTEOUSNESS (resent) "In righteousness you will be established: Tyranny will be far from you; you will have nothing to fear. Terror will be far removed; it will not come near you" (Isaiah 54:14 NIV). Sometimes ago, I was led to use Isaiah 54:14-17 as my family prayer wishes for people in my Internet ministry. I later gave a four-part serialized message based on the verses in my weekly devotional messages. I am led to resend the first part of the message this week. The basis for the prophecy in these verses that was turned to prayer wishes is righteousness. God promised that He would establish His people in righteousness. Many Bible scholars have interpreted this prophecy to different sets of people. Some of them apply it to the Jews that were returning from the Exile. Some are of the opinion that it is applicable to the Jewish Christians, while some extend the application to every Christian of all generations and nations. Some even apply it to the future Kingdom that God will set up in the last days and the people in that kingdom. Whichever the correct interpretation, the important thing is that the people that were (or will be) established were (or will be) established in RIGHTEOUSNESS. If anyone would like to apply the prophecy to himself, he must be ready to be righteous. To be righteous is to be virtuous, blameless, morally upright, and be in right standing with God. A synonym of the word "righteousness" is justice: to be just, fair, impartial and honest. A person that wants tyranny and terror of the evil ones to be far from him will be righteous. He must have allowed God to really establish him in act of righteousness and he must remain in it. Allow God to establish you in righteousness by moving closer to Him in prayer and meditation of His words. Be just and fair with people around you. Be in right standing with your God. "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people" (Proverbs 14:34 NIV). Then, tyranny and terror of the evil ones will indeed be far from you. In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Lord, help me to move closer to You in prayer and meditation of Your words so that You will be able to establish me in Your righteousness. NB: If you would like to have the other three parts of the message (if you have not had them), send a private message to me at spiritualdigest@yahoo.com. Thanks.

BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY “So any person who knows what is right to do but does not do it, to him it is sin” (James 4:17 AMP). ****************** QUOTE FOR THE DAY Let us cry out against all forms of perversion in our society. What is not good is NOT good. - Bayo Afolaranmi ******************** PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Pray that you will join other right-thinking people to stand against all forms of perversion in our society.

BEFORE IT IS ALSO LEGALIZED...

Dearly Beloved, BEFORE IT IS ALSO LEGALIZED... “You shall not have intimate relations with any animal to be defiled with it; nor shall a woman stand before an animal to mate with it; it is a perversion” (Leviticus 18:23 AMP). Before I sleep every night, I routinely check my Facebook pages, BlackBerry Messenger and WhatsApp Messenger groups to see if there is any important urgent message to attend to. Recently as I checked one of my WhatsApp groups, I saw a video clip posted by a married lady. I was, and still am, stunned to see the content of the clip: a man having sex with a DOG! I have never seen such a bizarre scene before. I removed the sender from the group immediately and apologized to other group members. However, many questions came to my mind. How did the lady get the video clip? Why would she send it to any group not to talk of a Christian group that is meant for inspiring messages? As a “single” mother (her husband lives in another city), does she not practice similar things? How would a right-thinking man be having sex with an animal? Is this part of the free world? Will people of deprived mind not legalize this act one day as it becomes more popular and acceptable in the society? Was this not how sodomy in all its forms gradually became popular and legalized in many countries of the world? What is this world turning to? (The lady later called me to apologize claiming that she did not intend to send the video clip to the group, but rather wanted to send it back to the person that initially sent it to her in order to warn the person. Nevertheless, the havoc has been done: over 200 people in the group have seen the evil video clip.) I will cry out before this bestial act is also legalized, and I want people that are thinking rightly irrespective of their religions, colour or race to join me in the cry against this pervasion and abuse of animals. If some human beings have become insane in their thinking, why are they abusing animals in the name of free will? Even, confirmed mad people will not do such a thing! I know that if these abused animals could express their minds, they also would cry out against this inhuman and bestial act. Apart from the biblical verse quoted above, let me refer to some other biblical injunctions against this act: “Whoever lies with an animal must be put to death” (Exodus 22:19 AMP). “‘Cursed is he who is intimate with any animal.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen’” (Deuteronomy 27:21 AMP). “If a man has intimate relations with an animal, he shall most certainly be put to death; you shall kill the animal also. If a woman approaches any animal to mate with it, you shall kill the woman and the animal; they shall most certainly be put to death; their blood is on them” (Leviticus 20:15-16 AMP). “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate [by perversion], nor those who participate in homosexuality” (1 Corinthians 6:9 AMP). “Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their own hearts to [sexual] impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them [abandoning them to the degrading power of sin], because [by choice] they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen” (Romans 1:24-25 AMP). What is not good is NOT good. A word is enough for the wise! In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray that you will join other right-thinking man to stand against these perverse acts.

BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” (Psalm 34:8 NKJV). ****************** QUOTE FOR THE DAY ’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, and to take Him at His word; Just to rest upon His promise, and to know, ‘Thus says the Lord!’ - Louisa M. R. Stead ******************** PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Pray that you will be able to put your trust in Jesus and enjoy the sweetness in trusting Him.

'TIS SO SWEET TO TRUST IN JESUS!

Dearly Beloved, 'TIS SO SWEET TO TRUST IN JESUS! "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning? O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent. Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel. In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed" (Psalm 22:1-5 NIV). The story of Louisa M. R. Stead (1850–1917) touched my heart the day I read it. She was relaxing with her husband and their four-year-old daughter on beach when they heard a desperate boy’s cry. The boy was drowning, and Louisa’s husband tried to rescue him. In the process, however, the boy pulled Mr. Stead under the water, and both drowned as Louisa and her daughter watched. Louisa Stead was left with no means of support except the Lord. She and her daughter experienced dire poverty. One morning, when she had neither funds nor food for the day, she opened the front door and found that someone had left food and money on her doorstep. That day she wrote the hymn, "TIS SO SWEET TO TRUST IN JESUS." Many people, including me, have trusted Jesus Christ in the time of needs, and He has proved Himself by miraculously meeting the needs. He never disappoints those who genuinely trust in Him. In spite of his predicament, the psalmist in Psalm 22 recounted how God has saved those that trusted in Him. No wonder, Louisa Stead could write, "Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him; how I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust Him more." Total trust in Jesus Christ will lead to the Lord’s unfailing love (Psalm 32:10), perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3), blessings (Isaiah 57:13), happiness (Proverbs 16:20), joy in the Lord (Psalm 5:11; 33:21), fulfilment of godly desires (Psalm 37:5), deliverance from enemies (Psalm 37:40), safety in times of danger (Proverbs 30:25), stability (Psalm 125:1), prosperity (Proverbs 28:25), etc. What is your own predicament? Does it seem that God has forsaken you? Have you put your total trust in Jesus Christ? He will meet you at the point of your need. Trust Him! You also will sing like Louisa Stead, "TIS SO SWEET TO TRUST IN JESUS." In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray that you will be able to put your trust in Jesus and enjoy the sweetness in trusting Him.

Spiritual Digest for the Day 16Oct2016

BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY "While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. ‘Your daughter is dead,’ they said. ‘Why bother the teacher any more?’ Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, ‘Don't be afraid; just believe’" (Mark 5:35-36 NIV). ****************** QUOTE FOR THE DAY Jesus Christ can turn your seemingly hopeless situation to a testimony. When it seems there is no more hope, just believe in Him and you will see the glory of God. You will indeed testify to His goodness over that situation. - Bayo Afolaranmi ******************** PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Pray that the Lord will arise to your situation when it seems there is no more hope for you.

WHEN IT SEEMS THERE NO MORE HOPE

Dearly Beloved, WHEN IT SEEMS THERE NO MORE HOPE "While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. ‘Your daughter is dead,’ they said. ‘Why bother the teacher any more?’ Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, ‘Don't be afraid; just believe’" (Mark 5:35-36 NIV). The daughter of a synagogue ruler was dying. The man came to Jesus Christ and pleaded that Jesus should come and heal her. Jesus responded immediately to the distressed call and followed the man to his home. However, there was an interruption on the way: another woman tapped a healing from Jesus Christ by mere touching His clothes. As Jesus was apparently pointing out the miracle to people that were following Him, some men came from the synagogue ruler’s house to tell him the sad news: his daughter was dead, and there was no need of bothering Jesus to come and heal her. To those men, there was no more hope for the daughter and her father. Nevertheless, Jesus encouraged the ruler, and went with him to his house to do the unexpected: raising the daughter from the dead! At times, many people have found themselves in similar situations. They might have been praying to God for a particular thing. It seemed that He was about to answer their prayers, and alas, the unexpected happened. It seemed that there was no more hope. In fact, such people might have lost hope in the situation. Such situation might have led such people to be angry with God or even deny His existence. Why would He allow the situation to become hopeless? Why could He not act fast and demonstrate His power to save the situation? Well, as Jesus did not focus on the seemingly hopeless situation of the synagogue ruler, but rather encouraged him not to be afraid but to believe in God, such people ought not to focus on their seemingly hopeless situation, but on God who is able to do all things. Jesus told Martha (another woman in a similar situation), "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?" (John 11:40 NIV). Are you in similar situation? Does it seem that there is no more hope for you? Have people around you written you off? Jesus is telling you today, "Don’t be afraid; just believe." He can turn that seemingly hopeless situation to a testimony. When it seems there no more hope, just believe in Him and you will see the glory of God. You will indeed testify to His goodness over that situation in Jesus’ name. Amen. In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray that the Lord will arise to your situation when it seems there is no more hope for you.

Spiritual Digest for the Day 09Oct2016

BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY "But King Solomon loved many foreign women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh: women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites.... his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David" (1 Kings 11:1, 4 NKJV). ****************** QUOTE FOR THE DAY Be careful lest the thing you love becomes your master and turn you away from God. - Bayo Afolaranmi ******************** PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Pray that what you love will not turn you away from your God.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST?

Dearly Beloved, WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST? "But King Solomon loved many foreign women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh: women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites.... his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David" (1 Kings 11:1, 4 NKJV). He was the richest king in his time. There was, and still is, no one as wise as this king. God favoured him above all other kings. God had determined to establish his kingdom forever. However, because of what he loved, his kingdom crumbled. That was king Solomon whom God endowed with greatness in wisdom, understanding and even wealth. Apart from the written Law of Moses that was guiding the people of Israel that he was leading, God appeared to him twice to warn him to keep these commands. Yet, Solomon loved foreign women and made them to turn his heart from his God. Having many wives (especially foreign) for a king is not a new thing. It is a diplomatic way of establishing one's kingdom. Nevertheless, it is not the God's way. That way caused the fall of Solomon. What do you also love most? The thing may be legitimate and permissible, but is it beneficial? Is it constructive? Is it God's will for you? Would God be happy with that thing that you love most? Apostle Paul warned the Corinthians twice: “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any” and “All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me,[b] but not all things edify” (1 Corinthians 6:12; 10:23 NKJV). Be careful lest the thing you love becomes your master and turn you away from God. In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray that what you love will not turn you away from your God.

THINGS OFFERED TO IDOLS

Dearly Beloved, THINGS OFFERED TO IDOLS "Therefore concerning the eating of things offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one" (1 Corinthians 8:4 NKJV). The ancient city of Corinth was a cosmopolitan city. This made the young church in the city to have many socio-cultural problems. Paul had to write many letters to them to address some of the problems that confronted the church. One of such problems addressed by Paul in 1 Corinthians 8 had to do with things offered to idols. These were by and large meat offered in sacrifice, and then either brought for sale in the market, or served up at the feasts held in honour of idols, at their temples, or at the houses of their adherents. Some of the Corinthian Christians were of the opinion that it does not matter to eat such meat especially one bought in market; others opined that it does matter and that it can become a stumbling-block to young Christians. Of most concern was the meat offered to idols and later used to entertain people. Should a Christian partake in such entertainment? Well, to Paul, even the idols are nothing compared to God, the Creator of the universe. The idols are just mere gods. So, eating things offered to idols does not matter. However, because of conscience, especially of the young and weak Christians, one may abstain from eating such things offered to idols. What are the things seemingly offered to idols around you? These may not necessarily be meat or food used in shrines, but day-to-day activities that are controversial and that may cause young and weak Christians to stumble. What is your opinion about such things? Paul later gave this instruction: “‘Everything is permissible’ -- but not everything is beneficial. ‘Everything is permissible’ -- but not everything is constructive. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.... So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God?" (1 Corinthians 10:23-32 NIV. Read Romans 14 for Paul's further instruction on this matter). In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Lord, do not let me cause others to stumble by my actions and words, but let my actions and words always glorify you, Lord, and build up others around me.

EVEN IN GOD'S WILL

Dearly Beloved, EVEN IN GOD'S WILL "During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, `Come over to Macedonia and help us.' After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them" (Acts 16:9-10 NIV). The intention of Paul and his companion during his second missionary journey was to continue their missionary activities in the region of Phrygia and Galatia, but the Holy Spirit did not allow them to. When they tried to go to another place, they were again prevented by the Holy Spirit. However, God led them to go to the region of Macedonia. They had a successful ministry in this region until an ugly thing happened - Paul and Silas were arrested, hurriedly tried, beating publicly, and unjustly imprisoned for delivering a slave girl from an evil spirit. One may wonder why Paul and his companions should have such nasty experience when they were in the right place where God wanted them to be. Why should they suffer injustice when they were doing the will of God? Nevertheless, God glorified Himself in the situation and many more souls were won for Him (see Acts 16:25-40). A similar situation occurred in Acts 18. God categorically told Paul: "Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no-one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city" (Acts 18:9-10 NIV). In obedience to this, Paul stayed in Corinth for one and half years. Notwithstanding this, there was a persecution. Some Jews tried to prosecute him, but God indeed rescued him from them. Are you passing through one suffering or persecution even when you are sure that you are in the will of God? Do not be discouraged! Suffering and persecution have been part and parcel of the gospel. "In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted" (2 Timothy 3:12 NIV. See also Matthew 5:11, 12; Mark 10:30; Acts 14:22; Romans 5:3; 2 Timothy 2:12; James 1:2-4, 12; 5:11; 1 Peter 4:12-16). Jesus says, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33 NIV). Even in God's will, there are persecution and hardship, but God will use the persecution and hardship to glorify Himself in your life. In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Requests: 1. God, let me always be in your will so that even if persecution or suffering comes, it will be to your glory. 2. Always assure me of your presence in persecution and hardship in Jesus' name.

The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills” (Habakkuk 3:17-19 NKJV). ****************** QUOTE FOR THE DAY Though dark be my way, since [God] is my guide, 'tis mine to obey, 'tis His to provide; though cisterns be broken and creatures all fail, the word He has spoken shall surely prevail. - John Newton ******************** PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Pray that you will be able to trust God in spite of all odds.

Spiritual Digest for the Day 18Sep2016

BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16 NKJV). ****************** QUOTE FOR THE DAY As good as modern short songs and choruses may be, older hymns are still relevant and very inspiring till date. - Bayo Afolaranmi ******************** PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Pray that you will create time to meditate on the old hymns and see their relevance to your life.

THEY ARE STILL RELEVANT!

Dearly Beloved, THEY ARE STILL RELEVANT! “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16 NKJV). One of the aspects of my Internet ministry is what I tag “Ministering through Daily Hymns” where through various social media I daily send the lyrics of a hymn that corresponds with the Bible verse and inspiring quote that I have sent earlier in the day. At times, as led by the Holy Spirit, I extract some parts of such lyrics and make them prayer wishes that I periodically send also through various social media and text messages. From experience, people rarely react to the lyrics of daily hymns, but mostly react to the prayer wishes extracted from the lyrics and testify how such prayer wishes are timely to their situations. I always wonder: Does it mean that the lyrics are not inspiring and timely? Are they no longer relevant? It is unfortunate that many present-day Christians and churches do not attach much importance to singing of hymns. They consider hymns outdated and no longer relevant in Christian worship. They prefer modern short songs and choruses. Churches and people that value and sing hymns are derogatively termed traditional or orthodox. No wonder, these modern-day Christians are missing the inspirations of the lyrics of these “old” hymns. However, Apostle Paul advised that we should not be unwise, but amongst other things speak “to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:19 NKJV). He gave similar admonition in Colossians 3:16 quoted above. The reason of his admonitions is not far-fetched. People that were inspired out of their personal experiences and relationships with God composed these hymns. Space would not permit me to be mentioning one by one the old hymns that are still very relevant and inspiring till date. Take any hymnal or search online for these hymns and discover the beauty and inspirations in these hymns, even those that are not popular or commonly sung. As good as modern short songs and choruses may be, older hymns are still relevant and very inspiring till date. Do you love hymns? They are still relevant! In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray that you will create time to meditate on the old hymns and see their relevance to your life. Spiritual Digest for the Day 11Sep2016

BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY "The wings of the ostrich flap joyfully, but they cannot compare with the pinions and feathers of the stork. She lays her eggs on the ground and lets them warm in the sand, unmindful that a foot may crush them, that some wild animal may trample them" (Job 39:13-15 NIV). ****************** QUOTE FOR THE DAY Do not be an ostrich! Harness your supposed greatness together with the wisdom and experiences of others in order to bring about desired results. - Bayo Afolaranmi ******************** PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY Pray that you will not in any way behave like an ostrich.

ARE YOU AN OSTRICH?

Dearly Beloved, ARE YOU AN OSTRICH? "The wings of the ostrich flap joyfully, but they cannot compare with the pinions and feathers of the stork. She lays her eggs on the ground and lets them warm in the sand, unmindful that a foot may crush them, that some wild animal may trample them" (Job 39:13-15 NIV). The New Oxford Dictionary of English defines an ostrich as "a flightless swift-running African bird with a long neck, long legs, and two toes on each foot. It is the largest living bird, with males reaching a height of up to 2.75 m." However, it is the most foolish of all birds. The Bible attests to this by describing some of its characteristics (Job 39:13-18). Many people are like the bird. They are wise in their own eyes. No other person is as wise as they. They hardly yield to corrections of others. In most cases, they have foolishly harmed themselves and others around them by their seemingly "wise" actions. Such people may have the strength, resources and influence to do things, but they lack the wisdom to execute such things successfully. It would have been better if such people harness their greatness together with the wisdom of others to bring about desired results. Solomon corroborated this: "Wisdom is better than strength. But the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are no longer heeded. The quiet words of the wise are more to be heeded than the shouts of a ruler of fools. Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good" (Ecclesiastes 9:16-18 NIV). The above-cited dictionary later applies its definition to "a person who refuses to face reality or accept facts." Such people seldom face reality as it is and accept facts about the situation. One would not be surprised that there are some people who know that Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to salvation (John 1:11-13; 14:6-7; Acts 4:12) but refuse to accept Him. Think about yourself. Are you an ostrich? In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray that you will not in any way behave like an ostrich.
