DO NOT DESPISE YOUR SMALL BEGINNING

Dearly Beloved, DO NOT DESPISE YOUR SMALL BEGINNING “Do not despise this small beginning, for the eyes of the Lord rejoice to see the work begin, to see the plumbline in the hand of Zerubbabel” (Zechariah  4:10 TLB). David was wandering from place to place as he tried to escape from King Saul that was seeking to kill him. In spite of the fact that he has been secretly anointed to be the next king of Israel with outstanding qualities and performances that made him stood out for the exalted position, he was not safe. It seemed there was no hope for him. He had to even relocate his parents and their household to another country for safety. In this distress, “[some others] who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered round him, and he became their leader. About four hundred men were with him” (1 Samuel 22:2 NIV). There was tendency for David to despise himself and these people because of their peculiar problems. However, he did not. He became their leader, and trained them to be brave like him. These seemingly despised people later became mighty men of valour that did great exploits for David and the land of Israel. Their exploits were recorded in 2 Samuel 23:8-39. The Lord has made it that the beginning of many great things is always small. No wonder, He told people through Prophet Zechariah that they should not despise the days of small beginnings because the hands of Zerubbabel that started the small things would definitely finish the work. From history, in spite of all odds, that small beginning became something great. Many other great things were once seemingly despised small things in the beginning. What is the small thing you are doing now? What do you consider as a small beginning? Are you leading a seemingly despised small group or project? What and/or who are your present obstacles in making the small thing great? Do not despise this small thing! The Lord will make it great. You will do great exploits through that small thing. The present obstruction will become a stepping stone to your greatness. The greatness will indeed be through you. In His service, Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor). Prayer Point: Pray that you will not despise your small beginning no matter how small it is, but will always look out for how to maximise it.
