QUOTE FOR THE DAY
Are you feeling lifeless and hopeless in your situation? You will live again! There is hope for you. You may be in the wintertime of your life. The springtime is coming when you will spring up. PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY
O Lord, bring me to the spring season of my life and let me flourish again.
YOU WILL LIVE AGAIN!
Dearly Beloved,
YOU WILL LIVE AGAIN!
“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease” (Genesis 8:22 NKJV).
One of the observations I made when I went to the United Kingdom for further studies some years ago was the changes in the seasons of the year. Obviously, this will be so as somebody who came from a hot-climate area of Africa to a very cold-climate area of Northern Ireland. I went to this part of the world during the autumn season. As the season changed to winter, I watched as many plants and trees started becoming “dead” by shedding all their leaves. Throughout winter, a first-timer in that part of the world would think that these plants and trees are lifeless and dry like the leafless trees in the tropical part of the world. But someone familiar with the seasons there knows that the leafless and seeming dry plants and trees are very lively. As the spring season started, I noticed that these seeming lifeless plants and trees had begun budding flesh leaves. It seemed new life was coming into them.
I was inspired especially by this new life coming to the seemingly lifeless plants and trees. If God can be fulfilling His promise in Genesis 8:22 in the lives of ordinary plants and trees, and they are coming back to life again, He will fulfil His promises in my life. No matter how lifeless I may seemingly be, I will blossom again. If an ordinary tree has hope when it is cut down that it will sprout again and that its new shoots will not fail (see Job 14:7), no matter my downfall, I will rise again. If a tree’s roots grow old in the ground and its stump dies in the soil, yet, at the scent of water, it will bud and put forth shoots like a plant (see Job 14:8-9), no matter my setback, I will progress in life. I join Prophet Micah to declare: “Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; when I fall, I will arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me” (7:8 NKJV).
The Lord took Prophet Ezekiel to the valley of very dry bones, and asked him if the dry bones could live again. The prophet could not answer in the affirmative. God asked him to prophesy to the dry bones. He did, and the dry bones came back to life (see Ezekiel 37).
Are you feeling lifeless and hopeless in your situation? You will live again! There is hope for you. You may be in the wintertime of your life. The springtime is coming when you will spring up. If the Lord is keeping His promise for ordinary plants and trees, He will fulfil His promises in your life. I say again, you will live again!

COME YE THANKFUL PEOPLE, COME
Dearly Beloved,
COME YE THANKFUL PEOPLE, COME
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name” (Psalm 100:4 NKJV).
In commemoration of the ongoing 109th annual session of the Nigerian Baptist Convention with Psalm 100:4 as the theme verse, let me repost one of my weekly messages based on the verse this week. The message is based on a hymn.
As somebody who grew up partly in a farm settlement setting and partly in what can be referred to nowadays as a traditional church setting, I can easily identify with Henry Alford, a 19th century Anglican clergyman, who composed the hymn “COME YE THANKFUL PEOPLE, COME” which has become a traditional harvest song that is now associated with Thanksgiving Day. Like any other person who has ever lived in a farming community, I know the importance that is associated with the harvest time. The fruit of the work of the whole year depends on the harvest. This cannot be accomplished until the crop is ready and which must be harvested diligently lest pests or weather spoil the harvest. During the busy harvest season, farmers literally work tirelessly to get the job done. The farmers would relax and celebrate only after the harvest. Well, if you have not had that experience, you should be able to appreciate the urgency of deadlines, the joy of an important job well done, and the relief of a break after a busy time at work.
Against this background, Reverend Henry Alford composed the popular harvest or thanksgiving hymn. He called on thankful people to come and raise the song of “Harvest Home” because all the harvest of the year is safely gathered in before the winter storms begin. He attributed this harvest to divine provision. So, thankful people should come to thank God in His temple. Alford affirmed that the whole world is God's own field where several things are happening. He then prayed that the Lord of harvest would enable us to have good harvest from this “field”. He further reminded people that the Lord shall come one day to take the harvest home, that He shall ask His angels to cast “the tares” in the hell fire, but the “fruitful ears” will be stored in the “garner” for eternity. This is in comparison to the parable of Jesus Christ in Matthew 13:24-30 and the words of John the Baptist in Matthew 3:12. Lastly, Alford prayed that God should quickly come with His angels to bring His final harvest home by gathering His people in so that they may be free from sorrow and sin and be forever purified and abide in His presence.
At a glance, this hymn is a hymn of thanksgiving and/or harvest. It is indeed good to thank God for thus far He has helped you in your life. However, the lyrics of the hymn are more about the final harvest that God will do in the future. Are you ready for the last harvest when God will “reap” you and place you in the place where you rightly belong? Will that place be in His everlasting presence or the eternal damnation in the lake of fire?
In His service,
Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor).

PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY

THE STRIFE IS O'ER
Dearly Beloved,
THE STRIFE IS O'ER
“The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15: 56-57 NKJV).
The hymn “THE STRIFE IS O'ER” is often sung as an Easter hymn and (in my part of the world) during burial services. However, the hymn is appropriate any Sunday, or even any day! This hymn composed by an unknown person originally in Latin reflects the victory that Jesus Christ has over the power of death. It also captures the triumphant joy of the His resurrection and the future resurrection of those that believe in Him. No wonder the hymn is sung during burial services of believers in Christ. Jesus Christ redeemed humanity by being a ransom for us through His death. He conquered the powers of hell and restored the link between fallen humanity and heaven.
This hymn indeed celebrates the battle fought and won at the cross of Calvary. "The powers of death have done their worst," but Christ has won the victory. The strife is over, and the battle is done. The victory of life has been won and the song of triumph has begun: Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Indeed, the powers of death have done their worst, but Christ has dispersed their legions. He closed the yawning gates of hell and made the bars from heaven’s high portals fall. We can now burst into shouts of holy joy outburst: Alleluia! After three sad days in the grave, He gloriously rose from the dead. Alleluia! The last stanza of the hymn is a prayer – a prayer that Christ, by his death, might set us free from death "so that we may live, and sing to thee: Alleluia!
Jesus Christ has indeed fought and won the battle over the power of death and sin. Believers in Him are more than conquerors (see Romans 8:37). However, that does not mean they are free from the struggles of life. In fact, Jesus Christ categorically told His disciples that they would have trouble in this world. The good news is that He has overcome the world (see John 16:33). The implication of this for every believer is that although Jesus Christ has won the battle over the power of death and sin, we have to continue with the various struggles of life until we die or Jesus Christ returns with the full awareness that He has given us victory already. Alleluia!
In His service,

PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY
Jesus Christ, continue to ride on in majesty in my life!
RIDE ON, RIDE ON, IN MAJESTY
Dearly Beloved,
RIDE ON, RIDE ON, IN MAJESTY
“So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them. And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: ‘Hosanna to the Son of David! “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” Hosanna in the highest!’” (Matthew 21:6-9 NKJV).
Henry Hart Milman (1791-1868) wrote this popular hymn, RIDE ON, RIDE ON, IN MAJESTY, to commemorate the Triumphal Entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem as He prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice on the cross. The hymn unites meekness and majesty, sacrifice and conquest, suffering and glory. Each stanza of the hymn begins with “Ride on, ride on in majesty.” Majesty is the theme of the hymn as Henry Hart Milman helps us to experience the combination of victory and tragedy that characterizes the Triumphal Entry. Jesus Christ is hailed with “Hosanna” as He rode forth to be crucified. People honoured Him with palms and scattered garments on the road that He would pass through. He knew He would die in Jerusalem, but His death would bring victory. It is his triumph "o'er captive death and conquered sin". The hosts of heaven were looking down with sad and wondering eyes awaiting the victory of Jesus Christ as with expectation. As Jesus Christ was about to have His last and fiercest strife, God the Father was also expecting Him in victory. Finally, Henry Hart Milman exclaimed that Jesus Christ rode forth "in lowly pomp ride" in spite of the mortal pain to take His "power and reign!"
This event was a significant event, not only to the people of the days of Jesus Christ on earth, but to all Christians throughout history. It is significant because it is the story of the King who came as a lowly servant on a donkey, not a dancing horse, not in royal robes, but on the clothes of the poor and humble. Jesus Christ did not come to conquer by force as earthly kings, but by love, grace, mercy, and His own sacrifice for His people. His is not a kingdom of armies and splendor, but of lowliness and servanthood. He conquers not nations, but hearts and minds. His message is one of peace with God, not of temporal peace.
If Jesus has made a triumphal entry into our hearts, He reigns there in peace and love. As His followers, we exhibit those same qualities, and the world sees the true King living and reigning in triumph in us. Allow Him to ride on in majesty in your life!
In His service,

WHEN YOU ARE ACCUSED FALSELY
Dearly Beloved,
WHEN YOU ARE ACCUSED FALSELY
“So it was, when his master heard the words which his wife spoke to him, saying, ‘Your servant did to me after this manner,’ that his anger was aroused. Then Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison...” (Genesis 39:19-20 NKJV).
One of my friends sought my counsel recently. Being one of the people in charge of counting collected church offerings, he was accused of stealing out of the offerings. He was not happy about the whole issue. I asked him whether the allegation was true or not. He confessed that it was false. I counselled him to leave everything to God and allow God to vindicate him.
The counsel was bitter for him to accept. I then reminded him of Joseph’s story in the house of Potiphar in Egypt. Here was a man who was sold into slavery by his own brothers. His master’s wife accused him falsely, and he was thrown into prison. However, he left everything to God and allowed God to vindicate him. God did vindicate him. The following verses attest to this: “And he was there in the prison. But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison; whatever they did there, it was his doing” (Genesis 39:20b-22 NKJV). That was not the end of the story. Joseph came out of prison to become the prime minister in a foreign land. Interestingly, nothing was heard again about Potiphar and his wife. Joseph was indeed vindicated.
Have you been accused falsely? Are you serving a punishment for that false accusation? Leave everything to God. God is with you. He will show you kindness and grant you favour even in that situation. He will eventually vindicate you.
In His service,
