BIBLE VERSE FOR THE DAY
"The seventy-two returned with joy and said, ‘Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.’ [Jesus Christ] replied, ‘... do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven’" (Luke 10:17-20 NIV).

PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY
Pray that you will focus more on serving God and His rewards in heaven rather than what you can achieve for yourself here on earth.
WHAT IS YOUR FOCUS?
Dearly Beloved,
WHAT IS YOUR FOCUS?
"The seventy-two returned with joy and said, ‘Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.’ [Jesus Christ] replied, ‘... do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven’" (Luke 10:17-20 NIV).
"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things" (Colossians 3:1-2 NIV).
Jesus Christ sent out seventy-two out of His disciples "two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go" (Luke 10:1 NIV). The mission outreach was a huge success as the disciples came back with many testimonies. The disciples shared these testimonies with Jesus Christ with great joy. Undoubtedly, their focus was on the success. However, having reaffirmed the victory of the disciples over the Satan and his cohorts, Jesus Christ redirected their focus on a better thing and place: heaven.
Many Christians nowadays are focusing on their successes in their academic, career, marital, financial, and/or even spiritual pursuits. Most especially, many ministers of God are making the euphoria of ministerial successes to overshadow the ultimate goal of making heaven and getting rewards in heaven. They are overwhelmed and apparently satisfied with their successful ministries. No wonder, many of such ministers of God do not care how they get that success. Success in any endeavor is good, but that should not be the focus of any right-minded Christian. The focus should be heaven and the rewards that one will get there.
What is your focus on earth? Is it earthly success? As a minister of the gospel, what makes you rejoice as you are doing the ministry? Is it the success you are recording in the ministry? Let your focus be the fact that you are working with God and that He will reward you accordingly in His heavenly kingdom. What is your focus?
In His service,
Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor).
Prayer Point: Pray that you will focus more on serving God and His rewards in heaven rather than what you can achieve for yourself here on earth.

BECAUSE OF THE KINGDOM?
Dearly Beloved,
BECAUSE OF THE KINGDOM?
"And from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force [as a precious prize — a share in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion]" (Matthew 11:12 AMP)
Throughout church history, denominations, groups of people, and individuals (both Christians and non-Christians) had misinterpreted and misapplied the Scriptures. These misinterpretations and misapplications which many people will claim are because of the kingdom of God have caused many erroneous doctrines and practices today. It is unfortunate that people are still misinterpreting and misapplying the Scriptures today especially to suit their selfish wishes. It would have been better if such selfish ambitions advance the cause of the gospel, but most of such are to deliberately deceive people to the selfish gains of the perpetrators of such misinterpretations and misapplications.
To buttress this, here is a mild drama that ensued between me and an unknown person recently. The person sent an SMS to me thus: "2nd edition of the ongoing chevron/Texaco bonanza, you just won N500,000.00, your number is one of the 15 lucky winners, ticket BT352k. Call us on [a mobile phone number]." Immediately I received the message, I knew it was a hoax. I called the person and advised him to desist from such act. The moment he discovered that I was not going to play along with him, he ended the call. Therefore, I sent this SMS to him: "I will advise you to stop this dubious act of duping unsuspecting people before God catch up with you with His wrath. You are warned!" He did reply my SMS. Here is his response: "I will advise you to stop this dubious act of yours because the kingdom of God suffers violence and the violent take it by force. You are warned! Mind your business." I replied him again thus: "So, your own way of taking the kingdom of God by force is deceiving people! The Lord will reward you greatly! I mind my business, but do not try such on me and other unsuspecting people again. I warn you, be ready for God’s wrath!" He never replied my second SMS.
One would wonder that such person could be bold to say that he is duping people because of the kingdom of God. No wonder, there are many questionable churches and fake pastors today. They hide under the kingdom of God and cause much havoc to unsuspecting people. Many scam emails have been sent to people telling them that there are donations to be used for God’s kingdom purpose. A careful verification of mails would reveal that they come from fraudulent people.
Are you one of such dubious people? Are you also deceiving other people because of the kingdom of God? Jesus Christ declared, "Let him who does wrong continue to do wrong; let him who is vile continue to be vile; let him who does right continue to do right; and let him who is holy continue to be holy. Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done" (Revelation 22:11-12 NIV).
In His service,
Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor).
Prayer Point: Pray that you will not misuse the opportunity of the kingdom of God that you have to mislead or dupe other people.

PRAYER/ACTION FOR THE DAY

WHETHER I LIVE OR DIE…
Dearly Beloved,
WHETHER I LIVE OR DIE…
“According to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:20-21 NKJV).
I had the opportunity of attending a funeral service of a nineteen-year-old young man during my visit to the United States recently. This service was a unique one from any other funeral service I ever attended in many ways. One, I could not imagine that it would be that well attended with people both young and old from far and near. Two, in spite of the fact that the deceased was just a teenager, the service was not a mourning or sad one as people testified to the good and exemplary Christian life of the deceased. Three, the parents of deceased were in attendance. The father, who is a pastor, was the one that even preached at the service. Four, the funeral service was turned into a revival service where many teenagers openly gave their lives to Jesus Christ, and many others rededicated their lives to live for Jesus Christ. This fourth reason really made the death of the teenager to be an eternal gain for the people that gave or rededicated their lives to Jesus Christ.
The life and death of this young man fulfilled the aspiration of Apostle Paul (and coincidentally mine) in Philippians 1:20-21. Apostle Paul was in a prison in Rome when he uttered the statement that he earnestly expected and hoped that Jesus Christ would be magnified in his body whether by life of by death. His life did magnify Jesus Christ. He lived for Christ and vigorously witnessed about the Christian faith. Because of these, he was beaten, stoned, hated, scorned, shipwrecked, and particularly imprisoned. In fact, he could boast that he worked harder than any other apostles by the grace of God (see 1 Corinthians 15:9-10). Most of the books of the New Testament were attributed to him. Undoubtedly, his death also did magnify Jesus Christ. He later explained further that his death would be gain because that would be far better for he would ultimately be with Christ in heaven. However, the death of that young man referred to earlier was not only gain for him in heaven, but also gain for many people here on earth because his death and burial brought them to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
O, how I wish that whether I live or die, my life would be gain for other people and me! Gain for me because I will go and be with my Lord, and gain for others because it will encourage them to draw closer to God. Could your life or death be gain for you and other people? Only those who live for Jesus Christ can be gain to themselves and others when they die. Whether I live or die, my life or death will be gain for others and me. What of you?
In His service,
Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor).

NO OTHER THING BUT THE CROSS!
Dearly Beloved,
NO OTHER THING BUT THE CROSS!
“For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:2 NKJV).
I have been seeing for many years the symbols of eggs during the Easter celebration. I never gave a deep thought to this until recently that a friend called people’s attention to it on Facebook. People’s responses to the Facebook post made me delve into the history of the relationship of symbols of eggs and the Easter celebration. Although, eggs have been associated with the celebration of the death and resurrection of Christ since the early days of the church, Easter eggs are to some extent adaptations of ancient pagan practices related to spring rites. Egg has long been a symbol of fertility, rebirth and the new beginning as characterized by springtime. In classical mythology a unique bird – the phoenix – is believed to have burned its nest to be reborn later from the egg that is left. Likewise, Hindu scriptures recount that the world developed from an egg. Iranians and others around them have decorated eggs on Nowruz (the Iranian New Year) that falls on the spring equinox (that is, the time or date twice each year at which the sun crosses the celestial equator, when day and night are of equal length) for thousands of years. Some ancient pagans celebrated this equinox (especially in late March) as the return of the sun God, which is a rebirth of light and an emergence from the lean winter. With the rise of Christianity in Western Europe, the church adapted many pagan customs and the egg, as a symbol of new life, came to represent the Resurrection. So, from a Christian perspective, Easter eggs are said to represent emergence of Jesus from the tomb and His resurrection. There is even an explanation for this custom that eggs were formerly a forbidden food during the Lenten season, so people would paint and decorate eggs to mark the end of the period of penance and fasting, then eat them on Easter as a celebration.
Well, no matter how good or otherwise these traditions or customs may be, there is no biblical basis for them, and they are a ploy to divert the attention of people away from the cross that symbolizes the one-for-all sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross and the real symbol of His resurrection – the empty tomb. The death of Jesus Christ on the cross was the single most important act in human history. Without His death, we would have no lasting hope of any kind. No wonder, Apostle Paul could emphatically say, “For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified” and “But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world” (1 Corinthians 2:2; Galatians 6:14 NKJV). Furthermore, His resurrection seals the hope for every Christian that as many who believe in Him will resurrect with Him on the last day (see John 11:25-26). These two symbols – the cross and the empty tomb – should be the symbols that should be used to celebrate this great event in history that we now celebrate on Easter every year, NOT any other symbol like egg that has pagan origin, and that does not clearly point people to the crucified and risen Saviour Jesus Christ.
Determine not to know any other thing apart from the cross and the empty tomb of Jesus Christ when it comes to the celebration of Easter.
In His service,
Bayo Afolaranmi (Pastor).
